I’ve been soul searching for almost a year now, with the help of Lara Casey’s blog, and also went to the MTH conference last October. All of that has helped me narrow my focus down and focus on what really matters. But there are still days where I feel like a little piece of the puzzle is still missing. And I’m not even really sure what it is…
What I like about the DLP course description is that you are hitting some of the mental clutter, but also touching on practical things like how to afford help! I love that, and so badly need it to grow my business in a healthy way.
I really hope I can be a part of this! Thank you for the opportunity π
Website – “What website :(” Having a website has been on my to-do’s, dreams, wish-list. This year I want to make it happen! Thanks for offering this scholarship. I’ve been following you for about 6 months and often click on the sign up, but never do. I’m scared, worried, and very overwhelmed. I was a “corporate” graphic designer for almost 10 years and changed to a freelancer after I had my first daughter. I now have 2 daughters, age 3 and 5. It would mean so much to find the time to continue to work from home and refine my business. In the past it was all referrals, now I struggle to figure out how and when I can gain more business and what aspects of me I should sell. This course would help my business by figuring out what is my business and what do I want it to be?! In life, I would feel more joy knowing my work is empowering me to be the woman and mom I want to be! I’m really looking forward to some mental organization of where to take my business life!
Hey Cathy,
So I know for a fact this course would help me in my life/business. Everything that it talks about improving are things I deal with. I have been burning the candle at both ends for some time now. Ever since I was working three jobs in college to working a full-time job and trying to establish The Creative Porcupine on the side. Now I work two-part time jobs solely to allow more time to spend on The Creative Porcupine clients. With The Creative Porcupine, it is always a learning experience and it always will be, but I am very hard on myself and I always have been in every aspect of life. I want to learn balance now because I tend to always fall into the habit of everything else falling to the side except either the people I work for or my clients. Right now with my financial situation of going down to two-part time jobs to make more room for The Creative Porcupine clients has required a tremendous change in my lifestyle. No more Target runs. The gain is that I get to work part-time for a job that fills me up vs. a job that tears me down and I have more time to work on my own clients. I have been burning the candle at both ends for too long now and I would so appreciate some kind of resolution that I can implement and a mentor to learn from on this topic. Thanks so much for your consideration!
I’ve been freelancing for 6+ months now and it’s been crazy awesome, as well as crazy insane at times. I’ve learnt so much but I also know there is so much more to learn. Although I am loving what I am doing I know I am not quite there yet.
Thanks for offering this scholarship, super nice. I’d love to be considered π
Hi Cathy,
Thank you for this incredible opportunity! I actually discovered you through the Making Things Happen group. I am currently running my event planning company and simultaneously trying to raise two kids, run a household , be a wife, a friend and more… Needless to say I’m spread pretty thin. Of course with my event planning company I have big dreams that I’ve been working on with Lara’s Powersheets, and I’m realizing that even with focus I need help. I need to learn how to delegate, I need to learn how to manage my time better. I’ve been in business for 5 years now, and I know that taking part in the Design Life Project course will allow me to take my business from survival mode a new level of thriving. I think this course would allow me to become productive and profitable, finally allowing me to hire someone who is as passionate as I am, and help improve their life.
I truly appreciate this opportunity! Be blessed and have a great Wednesday!
Best,
Jasmine
First of all, thank you for this chance!
Second of all, I just started my design service a month ago. Although I’ve been dreaming of it for a really long time. Well, it’s been great so far. But as newbie with zero knowledge of running a business, I am completely lost at keeping me organized and stick to the plan. Because sometimes procracination and distraction get in the way, making me lose focus. I hope this course will help me to be organized and focus on growing my business.
Right now I own two of my own businesses and help run my husbands’s online shop/business since he also has a “real” full time job. Not to mention that I’m pregnant with our first baby due in April! I feel like I am definitely doing too many things and need to prioritize and streamline some of those things/tasks. There will always be a longer than necessary to do list, but learning to prioritize and manage my time better will take the edge of the stress off. And I think learning from others is one of the best ways to accomplish this! Thanks for the opportunity for a scholarship!

Hi Cathy,
when I saw you had posted this opportunity on AH Inspired’s page, I just had to click to at least read more. I had recently reached out to my old friend, Amber and we chatted about the in’s and out’s of taking the (several) steps to being a better blogger. Enhancing my blog is a new venture for me and I want to do it right. She in fact mentioned you as someone to work with in designing my blog! But between taking a photography course, learning photoshop, and trying to deliver better blog content; I’m finding it difficult to decipher what to do next/how to tackle things. Couple that with: balancing life, motherhood, a household, husband-time and let’s not forget some R & R for myself; I find myself in hopes to get some much need help and dare I say, DIRECTION? That’s the quick “spill my guts” to a total stranger, but I’m sure you can understand.
On another note, I’m looking forward to following along your journey. Today was the first pit stop over to your blog and I’m absolutely enjoying it! I also read your about me page and chocked up a bit. Thank you for sharing it.
i am always bouncing around so many ideas, that sometimes i feel like i am swallowed by my work. i just relaunched as a wedding photographer last year, so this will be my first full year of weddings and i have also just launched a project that is growing faster than i anticipated. i’d really love to get a system in place before things get too crazy this year so i don’t end up as overwhelmed as i’ve let myself become in the past.
As an entrepreneur, blogger, full-time publicist and single mom to an infant, I feel like this course is a NEED and not just a want. I NEED to figure out how to find balance in my life, to create room for the Lord and real life, and to harness my creativity so that I can be optimally productive.
I find myself juggling so many ideas and projects, but lacking the systems to make them all run without a hitch.
I want to focus on what matters. I want to be productive and do my best work efficiently so that I have more time for my son and for more “me” time rather than feeling frazzled all the time that projects are late or blog posts I intended to write aren’t done yet.
Thank you for providing the opportunity for this scholarship… As a fellow MTH alum I have loved following you online for a while now!
Many blessings, xoxo!
I work full time for a church, am fire to a fireman who is on duty serving our community 48 hours at a time, and we have twin girls who are almost 5 year old. Life is full and busy yet can alway use more control and balance. I have consulted with Lara Casey and have loved, valued and seen progress from what I learned and implemented from her. Looks like DLP would just further add to that foundation and the work still to be done. Blessings, Heather (Helena Parker’s sister)
I started my small business doing graphic design a little over a year and a half ago. I started it with nothing but a passion for design and an interest in learning more. Fast forward to the present and I have, in the last few months, started doing freelance graphic (and web design- all that yearning for learning (haha) paid off) as my full-time job. I am making enough to get by every month but am really struggling to create a balance between life and work as the two are sort of intertwined now. I know that if I had more focus and organization that I could really turn this into a great business and make more than just enough to get by. I want this to be my CAREER, but I know I need some help getting it all together if I am going to be able to do that.
Thanks for the chance!
I feel overwhelmed with the amount of things that I *want* to do and the things I *need* to do to make those things happen. I constantly feel like I’m letting go of opportunities, wasting time away or not doing the best I can do in my business. This has also taken away from my life — my husband is a police officer on shift hours and I feel that I am not able to accommodate his time even though I’m on a flexible schedule as a business owner! I just want to get my entire life and business in check so that I can truly live out my legacy and show up for everything that matters.
Thank you for this opportunity. π
I work full time for a church, am the wife of a fireman who works 48 hours shifts serving our community, and am mom to twin almost 5 year old girls. Much to organize, prioritize and accomplish in work, ministry, service, and family. I have consulted with Lara Casey and have made great steps in better time management and getting things done. I think DLP would help me take things to the next step and maybe add in some much needed time like physical fitness. Thank you for this opportunity. Blessings Heather (Helena Parker’s sister)
Hi Cathy!
I just learned about you and your Design Life Project! What a great concept?! I have always considered myself a designer in many ways, but never really thought about designing my life. However, I have been in a state of change for the past year or so. I have come to realize and accept that the career path that I thought I wanted doesn’t actually fit “me” to my core, AT ALL!
This past year has been all about realizing my true passions, what makes my soul happy and what my ultimate purpose in life is. Now that I think about it, this year has been the start of designing my life – designing it to be exactly what I want it to be!
I am very new to the creative industry that I am stepping (more like jumping!) into and I feel like this course would be perfect in helping me define exactly what matters most in my life and creating a schedule and plan to achieve exactly that! Ultimately, I know that I would love to live a well balanced life with a successful career and a well-nourished marriage (and eventually some bundles of joy along the way), but I’m not sure I quite have all the tools to do it on my own. Although there is always a bit of trial and error in life, it would be great to learn as much as possible from those who have already figured it out! With that said, thank you for sharing your knowledge on creating a custom-designed well balanced life so that others have a chance to do the same! And I really appreciate this opportunity to take the course!
Can’t wait to hear who the winner is on Monday!
Cathy- I so appreciate your willingness to open this course up to a scholarship attendee! What a gift. I ended up going full-time with my company in August during, by far, the toughest year of my life. While I am grateful for where it has lead me, the year challenged me down to my core. August certainly wasn’t my “planned” timeframe to go full-time. However, it has been a steep learning curve coupled with an enormous blessings of ideal clients that have filled my plate up to (even past?) the brim. I’m so desperately in need of structure, hiring, delegating, etc., and would absolutely love to be a part of your Design Life course. I’m incredibly grateful for where He has lead me in the past year, and I just want to glorify Him to my fullest potential. It’s incredible to read through the bullet points/questions you’ve listed in the description and see just how accurately they describe my life. I’m so relieved to know there are other creatives out there that have journeyed through similar seasons! Again, thank you for your generosity & kind heart. I so appreciate the opportunity to apply! Now, I’m going to bed (since I obviously need to work on my boundaries). π
Hi Cathy β What a great project and eCourse and an opportunity to apply for the scholarship. In 2013 I worked for a studio, freelancing to clients and teaching nights at a college. At the end of the year I can honestly say that it was a busy year. This year my aim is to not do what I did last year and free up some time and focus on building something with longevity. My site is in the throws of going up.
What an awesome opportunity! Very generous of you to offer this chance.
When I first read about Design Life Project, I thought it was such an awesome and much needed idea. I am a work from home mom who left my full time job of 9 years last year to walk in God’s purpose for my life. Not only am I confident that this purpose is being a great wife & mom, I also know this also includes using my talents to bless and help others. How to go about doing this while maintaining balance and not losing myself has always been my struggle.
A self-professed perfectionist, I thrive when things are going well, are in order and everyone is taken care of. On the other hand, I can sometimes find myself quickly coming unwound when things are not balanced and just right. As much as I’ve tried to will myself to get that balance, I now realize I need help.
We recently found out that we’re expecting our 3rd child in August so my need for balance will be even greater with a newborn to take care of in addition to everything I already have on my plate.
Thanks again for the opportunity to apply!
Madelyn
I would love to be a part of this course as I’m creating a little side business that is all about creativity and intentionality. I’m struggling with the pull of what I think I SHOULD do and what I want to do and what I love. I’m hoping this class could inspire and help direct me in how to develop my skills and passion without burning out from overwhelm!
This scholarship idea is amazing thanks for giving us the gift of life/work balance. I have had my business for over 16 years part time and as of last May I took the plunge to go take it to the next level, quit my corporate job and go 100% self employed. What a scary decision to make and an even more scarier to upkeep. I feel like I work all the hours of the day to keep up and have let many things go around me just to keep up.
I have the fear of not being able to take care of my family. This is why when I read about your scholarship I just knew this was what I needed to get into the proper frame of mind for this brand new year and my future!
Hope I am the lucky recipient but know after reading all of the entries, you have a difficult decision to make! Best of luck to us all, even you!
Cheers!

BTW…love the blog!!!
This sounds exactly like what I need. I blog, volunteer, run my business, and I’m a full time grad-student and sometimes I feel like I’m losing my mind. This would be perfect since I’m constantly struggling to find that balance and make sure I’m spending enough time with my family and taking care of everything that needs taking care of!
Dear Cathy,
I was so excited when Katie Price of http://pricelessdesignstudio.com/ told me about your Design Life Project! It sounds like exactly what I need! I love being a designer and working on the web, but need to streamline my systems and create a protocol that will enable me to actually do what I love to do, design, and not get bogged down with the processes. I have five beautiful daughters and a busy household as well so it would be a dream to gain some insight from your course. (plus, I feel like we are friends already because I left my heart in SoCal π Born and raised in San Diego County!) Gladly already shared on facebook https://www.facebook.com/fivelittleladies.stephanie
Thanks for sharing this in the AH inspired Facebook group, so glad I saw this before the deadline! I know I would benefit greatly from this course! I have an event styling and stationery business, and work full time as a display designer for a technology company.
I love my job but often feel resentful about the lack of time I have to wok on my styling business. I know I need help in making the best use of my time as well as narrowing down opportunities to pursue. I’m constantly coming up with other ideas to add to my business, but if I’m struggling with what I already offer, how on earth can I add more?!
I feel like this year will see a lot of growth for my company and I want to be ready and organized to maximize the opportunities I am given!
I would love to win, this will help me to define my business and how to manage all my task . Not only where to start but to have confidence that I am on the right track in growing the business that I love .
Dear Cathy,
I found your blog few days before Christmas last year and I immediately fall in love with your story, your posts and your soul. Signed up for a newsletter and talked about your posts with my good friends and all your ideas and advices you gave me since then. I am definitely planning to sign up to your e-course in the future to help me with my attitude to life, all the pretty things around me, how to focus more on my dreams while also do my best at my daytime work. I am not writing here to get a scholarship; I just want to thank you for what you do, for your advices, for your attitude. Because I love it so much!
From Prague, with Love, Lucie.
